Giorgio Vasari was a famous polymath of the Renaissance period. Giorgio Vasari was a painter, architect, historian and writer. He was born on July 13, 1511, in Arezzo, Italy. His father was “Antonio Vasari“, who was a potter. His family name “Vasari” came from vases. Vasari means the maker of vases. His mother was “Maddelena Tacci”.


He first started as a student of Guglielmo da Marsiglia at early ages. Marsiglia was a stained glass artist. Guglielmo was commissioned to do some works in the Vatican. During that period, Vasari became familiar with the excellent works of Michelangelo and Raphael. After noticing the beautiful works of Vasari, Silvio Passerini took him as an assistant to Florence in 1524. Silvio Passerini was the master of famous Medici brothers. After that, he began to work with Michelangelo. Even Vasari repaired the broken statue of David which was originally done by Michelangelo. When Michelangelo left Rome, Vasari acted as the master of the workshop of Andrea del Sarto. Vasari completed the frescoes named Sala Dei Cento Giorni in the hall of the chancery in Palazzo Della Cancelleria in 1547. He was commissioned to do many excellent works by the Medici family. Perhaps the most important paintings of his life are located on the walls of Sala di Cosimo in the Palazzo Vecchio. He also completed many outstanding works as an architect. He also has a corridor named after himself. The Vasari corridor is a long passage linking the Uffizi with the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Vasari is also mentioned as the first art historian for his writings named The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects.
